It is typical for many IIT grads (a little more than half of former students) to remain in Chicago, Ill., which may come as a shock given the city's depressed salaries (median pay is $83K). By comparison, the top-paying city popular with IIT alumni is San Francisco, Calif., which offers a median salary of $113K.

Degree Major

A graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (ME) from IIT can rake in a whopping average about $106K per year, more than any other degree from this school. The degree that warrants the lowest level of financial compensation is a Master of Science (MS), Computer Science (CS) ($62K on average annually).


Many IIT grads have knowledge of Project Management, with one in three alumni using this program on the clock. Illinois Institute of Technology grads who have experience with SQL can expect to make 16 percent more than other alumni ($96K on average). Competency in Engineering Design, SQL, and C++ Programming Language also warrants excellent remuneration.
