Graduates of IIT go into the engineering services industry, the consulting industry, and the software development industry, not to mention a variety of other lines of work. A large chunk of former IIT students are employed in the architectural services industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. IIT graduates often advance into high-paying positions, which is somewhat expected given their above-average SAT scores. Following graduation, IIT students earn an average of around $78K.
IIT grads who become Senior Software Engineers garner financial rewards beyond any other job type for this group — these alumni rake in an average $98K annually. However, Software Engineers and Software Developers also rank as top-earners (bringing in about $81K and $72K, respectively). Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Design Architects; alumni in this role face average salaries of $53K.
Though Chicago, Ill. offers the least in terms of financial rewards (median pay is the lowest at $73K), more than two-fifths of IIT students continue living here after college. IIT alumni in search of the largest paycheck, on the other hand, will find it in Seattle, Wash. where approximately $102K is the average pay. New York, N.Y. and Los Angeles, Calif. also rank high on the list of cities.
IIT students with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Finance can expect to make the most money ($122K on average per year) compared to their fellow graduates. The degree that warrants the lowest level of financial compensation is a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) ($48K on average annually).
Benefits and Perks
Only about one in three grads enjoy paid vacation and one in six survey participants receive sick leave. Benefits are rather generous for graduates of this school; a large number of survey participants are rewarded with health insurance and a strong majority of grads report dental coverage, too. In an effort to save up for the years ahead, most alums contribute to a 401(k). Alumni of Illinois Institute of Technology also take in a casual working environment, life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
Clarkson University grads report the most similar salaries to IIT alums, earning around $77K on average. The University of Dayton, Duquesne University, and Drexel University are also similar to IIT.
