Job Description for Computer Technical Support Specialist

The chief objective of a computer technical support specialist is to see to the information technology needs of the company. Their goal is to contribute to a reliable, and secure company IT infrastructure. The support specialist will be responsible for setting up computers, basic hardware maintenance, and the installation of new software and software updates as well as the configuration of servers within the entire company as well as individual departments. They will be required to handle any and all troubleshooting required by company employees, helping to remove and protect against viruses. Work is not limited to desktop computers, and may also include laptop, and PDA maintenance. Specialists are responsible not only for individual computing needs, but for the overall quality of the company network. They may be responsible for procuring new hardware, including that which is required by individual users, or to improve the overall quality of the company's IT system. Specialists may also help to create and maintain departmental websites, and the company's external and internal websites. They should keep abreast of new developments in technology, keeping in mind the needs of the company's various departments. They should consider any opportunities that become available that may help to make the company's network and computing more effective and efficient. In addition, the specialist must keep in mind the security of the company network. It is important that they safeguard sensitive information, developing and implementing policies that will help other employees to take the necessary precautions to protect sensitive company data.
