Job Description for Restaurant Assistant Manager

Restaurant assistant managers are quite similar to managers. However, assistant managers' work is supervised by the manager. There are several activities that assistant managers have to do. They have a high level of interaction with their employees, so they hire and train employees and oversee their work. They also have to make up schedules and be there to communicate between the employees and the owners. Restaurant assistant managers are in charge of ordering food and evaluating potential suppliers. During some circumstances the assistant manager will have to act as the real manager if they are not available. Assistant managers are also in charge of restaurant inspections. They have to ensure that all employees work according to code and that no violations are committed. An important role of a restaurant assistant manager is taking care of customers. Assistant managers are also able to give discounts to customers who are unsatisfied with their dining experience. They are also in charge of handling any customer disputes or conflicts that may arise. For example, if a customer has a problem with their meal, it will be up to the assistant manager to solve the problem accordingly. Assistant managers need to be able to multitask and exhibit strong problem solving skills. Some restaurants only require a high school diploma or GED. However, some restaurants may require their assistant managers to have a two or three year degree in hospitality or food service management. In essence, a assistant manager is the backbone of restaurants. It is their job to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

  • Monitor and improve restaurant appearance, flow and customer experience.
  • Inventory, order, and audit materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Schedule, train, and supervise staff.
  • Analyze and report on budgets, including profit and loss.
