Job Description for Retail Store Manager, Grocery

Working as a grocery retail store manager requires overseeing various aspects of the grocery store itself, including finances, inventory and the management of all employees. A grocery retail store manager is often required to establish and share employee schedules while delegating tasks that should be covered throughout each week with individual employees. Monitoring employee communication with customers and effectiveness when stocking or working cash registers are also responsibilities of a manager working for a grocery retail store.
Coaching, training and counseling employees while ensuring that they are satisfied and working efficiently are the responsibility of a grocery store manager. Preparing annual budgets, analyzing past and current expenses, and reviewing income and sales versus outgoing payments are required duties of a grocery store manager, so it is important to understand how to work with budgets, spreadsheets and financial reports.
It is also the responsibility of the grocery store manager to set sale and customer goals for all employees. Boosting morale and maintaining a happy staff to ensure that the workplace environment does not suffer are also the responsibility of the manager of a grocery store. Complying with legal requirements and any state or federal regulations of selling food, taxing it and setting prices is also the job responsibility of the grocery store manager. Understanding how to properly maintain and work with all current electronic systems, cash register programs and store software is required of store managers. Attending seminars, conferences and workshops regularly may also be required when working as a retail grocery store manager.

  • Supervise grocery store employees, overseeing hiring, discipline, training, and promotions.
  • Manage the daily operation and administration of all departments of a grocery store.
  • Set standards for customer service, receive and respond to customer complaints.
  • Monitor store financial performance, setting business objectives and implementing strategies to meet those targets.
  • Oversee the ordering and stocking of products, monitor product quality, and adjust inventory to meet customer needs.
