Animator Salary: How Much Can You Earn as an Animator?
Working behind the scenes as a 3D animator on popular Pixar and Disney movies might sound like a dream come true for many animators, but not everyone gets to work on blockbusters. And to be fair, working in the entertainment industry at all may not appeal to some animators. Fortunately, 3D animators can also find work in television, Internet, video game, education and other industries. Of course, the typical animator salary is not the same across all industries. Part of the allure of the movie industry may be the possibility of earning a higher salary. Comparing the median Animator Salary by Industry shows that the upper end of the salary range can be quite high for animators working in movies.
For the fledgling animator, salary can be quite low. You might have to spend some time working your way up the ladder before you get a big break or simply gain enough experience to earn a higher wage. To see how salaries for entry-level positions compare to those requiring more experience, take a look at the chart showing the median Animator Salary by years Experience. You’ll see that the median salary range is broad regardless of experience. An animator with 10 years of experience can earn $40,000 a year or over $100,000. So, besides experience, things like industry, employer and location play a large role in determining an animator’s salary. And there’s also that pesky thing called talent. If you’re drawn to this career and think you have what it takes to navigate a competitive field, go for it. It just might be the best job you ever had.
