Marriage and family therapists specialize in assessing psychological issues within families and couples. They identify the issues and their effect on family members and the relationships between family members. The therapist works out of a plan of action that might include one-on-one talk therapy with the affected parties, couples therapy, or other methods. They provide support to the family members and utilize community resources to assist patients and their families. They also confer with the patients' medical doctors regarding ongoing treatment options.
