Mechanical technicians (also referred to as simply "mechanics") are responsible for preventative maintenance for their company’s machines and equipment They also inspect equipment to verify that it is safe to use, as well as make repairs as needed. When a breakdown occurs, mechanical technicians inspect and diagnose the underlying problem; they then determine if it is necessary to replace parts and/or how to repair the equipment as quickly and safely as possible. Mechanical technicians must keep detailed logs of maintenance and repairs, as well as use specialized tools to calibrate equipment and machines. They also maintain sufficient inventory of replacement parts and repair equipment.
