These engineers typically work with other engineers to research and implement solutions to increase productivity, and typically report their progress to a manager or supervisor within the organization. They use a personal computer to modify equipment procedures and document changes made to the principal process, and they must write detailed reports based on their observations and use spreadsheet applications to run calculations and estimate production and development output. They should be well-versed with different operating systems and programming languages to write scripts and modify settings, and organization and close attention to detail are important in this position to prevent issues with production and release dates. They must also identify errors and use strong problem-solving skills to develop solutions, and some may manage product/service budgets and timelines.
A bachelor's degree is generally required for this position, and relevant prior experience in the field is highly beneficial. Industry certifications are also helpful.
Principal Process Development Engineer Tasks
- Analyze evaluations and quality assessments for proper implementation of programs, systems specifications and quality standards.
- Analyze feed, product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine appropriate designs and processes.
- Assist with analysis, evaluation and assessment leading to development of recommendations for system and process improvements.
