Job Description for Senior Research Engineer, Materials

Senior materials research engineers are responsible for researching engineer materials and conducting materials assessments on behalf of their company. These individuals are in charge of facilitating materials knowledge for future engineering decisions. Some of their main responsibilities include helping with data collection, inputting information into company databases, handling materials planning, and overseeing data analysis efforts. They also review material studies and follow up with the materials-related recommendations. Other tasks performed by senior materials research engineers include actively participating in engineering meetings, suggesting ways to improve the research process and materials selection, and participating in research training and mentoring sessions. They communicate with a variety of colleagues, including engineers, material professionals, vendors, and clients, on a regular basis. These engineers are also responsible for obtaining relevant materials data, applying it to process and procedure development, and completing necessary analysis; they must communicate their results effectively to technical and non-technical professionals in their organization.
