Diplomacy is also important, as they must maintain ethical, editorial, and moral integrity throughout the broadcast. These directors must understand every phase of a newscast, including reporting, news planning, editing, and production, and they may help develop story ideas, select reporters for coverage, track issues and events, and schedule stories for publication. A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is generally required for this position, and some positions may require a master's degree.
Television newscast directors work primarily in news studios, the size of which can vary depending on the size of the station itself, and co-workers may include reporters, news anchors, and other departmental staff. Hours in this position can vary greatly and may depend on when the program airs on television, and long hours without breaks may occasionally be necessary.

- Direct fast paced and graphics heavy newscasts using state of the art systems and equipment.
