Graduates of IIT head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; the engineering services industry, the construction industry, and the architectural and engineering services industry are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The most popular professional field seems to be the architectural services industry. In line with impressive SAT scores, IIT grads also report top-earning positions in the workforce. Former IIT graduates bring in about $78K on average.

The biggest paychecks among IIT alumni are earned by Senior Software Engineers — these former students make a median salary of $99K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Software Engineers ($74K) and Mechanical Engineers (approximately $73K). Salaries are anything but generous for Intern Architects, whose earnings rank lowest on the pay scale at $41K.

IIT alumni seem to appreciate living in Chicago, and more than two-fifths of grads actually choose to stay and find employment here after completing their coursework. Houston, Texas is also a common destination for IIT grads and offers the best pay with a median salary of $109K. Atlanta, Ga. is a popular spot for former IIT students at the opposite end of the pay scale; in fact, average salaries there are the lowest at around $65K. San Francisco, Calif. and New York, N.Y. also rank high on the list of cities.

Degree Major

Among the highest-paid IIT alumni are those with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (ME) — they earn close to $138K on average per year. Graduates holding a Bachelor of Science in Physics fare the worst in terms of compensation with an average yearly salary of approximately $40K.

Competency in C# translates into above-average pay for Illinois Institute of Technology grads — they earn 20 percent more than their fellow graduates. Many former IIT students are familiar with Engineering Design, and about one in five grads move on to positions where this experience is utilized. Proficiency in Project Management, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Excel command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

When it comes to benefits, there is room for improvement — only one in three grads are paid for vacation and just one in five survey participants for sick time. Health benefits extend to the vast majority of alumni, and a strong majority of former students also receive dental coverage. Almost all respondents allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. Additional benefits handed to Illinois Institute of Technology alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

University of Dayton graduates, who earn $72K on average, make a similar amount to IIT grads. Duquesne University, Drexel University, and the Stevens Institute of Technology are also similar to IIT.
