Professionally, the architectural services industry, the software development industry, and the civil engineering services industry are popular business areas among IIT alumni. A large chunk of former IIT students are employed in the financial services industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. Pulling in paychecks on the larger end are IIT grads, which is not shocking considering the high SAT scores reported by this demographic. Those with a degree from IIT make an average of $83K.

The school's graduates who responded to the survey are largely male (the male-to-female ratio is 3 to 1).

Among IIT graduates, the biggest earners are Software Engineers, who haul in about $107K on average. Next on the list are Financial Advisory Services Associates and Structural Engineers, bringing in $96K and approximately $90K, respectively. Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Electrical Engineers; alumni in this role face average salaries of around $59K.

Slightly more than half of IIT students choose to remain in Chicago, Ill. after graduation, where the average salary is actually the lowest at $83K. IIT grads with a different agenda may consider the above-average salaries in San Francisco, Calif. — pay averages to $113K.

Degree Major

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (ME) leads to the highest pay for IIT grads (about $106K on average per year). Those holding a Master of Science (MS), Computer Science (CS) are less fortunate in terms of earnings, bringing in $62K on average per year.

Project Management is a common skill among IIT alumni — approximately one in three grads mention using it at work. Competency in SQL translates into above-average pay for Illinois Institute of Technology grads — they earn 16 percent more than their fellow graduates. Experience with Engineering Design, SQL, and C++ Programming Language is highly valued as well.

Nearly a half of former students can rely on paid vacation days, but just one in three grads have the luxury of paid sick time.
