Graduates of IIT are found working in a number of different fields including the engineering services industry, the architectural and engineering services industry, and the construction industry. The most popular career sector among alumni is the architectural services industry. Consistent with the high SAT scores reported by IIT alumni, former students go on to earn high salaries. Those with an education from IIT earn an average of $78K.


Former IIT students with an interest in making money consider becoming Senior Software Engineers, the highest-paying gig (average earnings amount to around $99K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Senior Software Engineers ($88K) and Software Engineers (approximately $74K). On the lower end, Intern Architects report making $41K.


Graduates of IIT seem to enjoy living in Chicago, and one-half of grads wind up living and working there after graduation. IIT grads also flock to Houston, Texas, which is home to salaries significantly above average (median pay is about $109K). On the other hand, IIT alumni who end up in Atlanta, Ga. receive the lowest median salary of $65K. In addition, grads flock to San Francisco, Calif. as well as New York, N.Y.

Degree Major

Financial compensation is highest for IIT grads with a Doctorate (PhD) (average earnings climb to approximately $109K per year). A Bachelor of Science in Physics offers the lowest median annual financial reward ($40K).


Many IIT grads have knowledge of Engineering Design, with one-fifth of alumni using this program on the clock. Illinois Institute of Technology grads who have experience with C# can expect to make 20 percent more than other alumni (about $94K on average). Project Management, AutoCAD, and Java are among other dominant skills.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about one in three grads) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one in five survey participants get sick time. Nearly all survey participants take advantage of a 401(k) plan. Health benefits extend to the vast majority of respondents, and a strong majority of respondents also receive dental coverage. Alumni of Illinois Institute of Technology also take in life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
