Professionally, the health care industry, the manufacturing industry, and IT services are popular business areas among La Tech alumni. The most popular field is the engineering services industry. La Tech graduates see an estimated starting salary of $60K.


After graduation, disparities in salary rise to the surface — males tend to earn about $70K per year compared to females' around $49K.


Among La Tech graduates, the biggest earners are Operations Managers, who haul in $108K on average. Next on the list are Engineering Project Managers and Senior Mechanical Engineers, bringing in $97K and $95K, respectively. On the lower end, Intern Architects report making approximately $39K.


Shreveport is filled with La Tech grads. It is no surprise that Houston, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is $82K), is another of the most popular spots for former La Tech students. Many former Bulldogs can't resist staying in Ruston after graduating despite the median salaries there ranking lowest among popular cities ($41K). Close-by Monroe and Baton Rouge are also desirable cities among La Tech alumni.

Degree Major

A Master of Engineering (MEng / ME), Chemical Engineering leads to the highest pay for La Tech grads (about $123K per year). The degree that warrants the lowest level of financial compensation is a B.A. in Psychology (around $40K annually).


One in six grads report using Project Management as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Former Bulldogs with Engineering Design experience garner salaries that are 46 percent more than other grads' salaries. Other prime know-hows include Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Engineering Design.

Benefits and Perks

Only two-fifths of alumni for this school enjoy paid vacation days and about one in three grads get paid sick time. A strong majority of survey participants plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. Health coverage is awarded to a strong majority of alums, and dental insurance is issued to most alumni as well. Additional benefits handed to Louisiana Tech University alumni include life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and flexible hours.
