Professionally, the education industry, clinical care, and the manufacturing industry are popular business areas among La Tech alumni. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the engineering services industry. Starting salaries of $64K are the median among La Tech grads.

A gender wage gap becomes apparent after college, with female graduates earning only approximately $50K on average compared to $68K for male graduates.

Former La Tech students with an interest in making money consider becoming Senior Mechanical Engineers, the highest-paying gig (average earnings amount to $90K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Operations Managers ($78K) and Executive Assistants (about $57K). Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Design Architects; alumni in this role face average salaries of around $40K.

Shreveport, La. is filled with La Tech grads. It is no surprise that Dallas, Texas, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is approximately $94K), is another of the most popular spots for former La Tech students. La Tech alumni in Lafayette, La. can often be found sliding in at the lower end of the pay scale, where median paychecks are the smallest at $46K. Other popular cities include Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, La.

Degree Major

A Master of Computer Science (MCS) earns La Tech students the most money after college (an average $115K per year). Those with a Master of Architecture (MArch) face salaries on the lower end, coming in at an average around $35K per year.

Nearly one in six grads report using Project Management as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Former Bulldogs with Operations Management abilities can expect to make 64 percent more than their former classmates ($104K). Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Engineering Design are desirable skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Although roughly half of the former students are compensated for vacation days, only one-third of alumni are paid for sick time. In an effort to save up for the years ahead, a large number of survey participants contribute to a 401(k). Health coverage is awarded to a large number of respondents, and dental insurance is issued to a fair number of grads as well. Additional benefits handed to Louisiana Tech University alumni include a company-subsidized cell phone, life insurance, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Compensation averages $63K for University of New Orleans alumni, making their earnings most comparable to La Tech grads. Other schools similar to La Tech include Jackson State University, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
