La Tech alumni find work in an assortment of industries including the engineering services industry, the manufacturing industry, and the education industry. Among La Tech grads, the banking industry is a commonly chosen career field. On the other end of the spectrum is the education industry, which attracts one in twenty La Tech alumni. Following graduation, La Tech students earn an average of around $66K.


Graduates of La Tech seem to enjoy living in Ruston, and about one in six grads wind up living and working there after graduation. With a median salary of about $141K, Ruston, La. represents the highest-paid city popular among La Tech grads. For comparison, the lowest-paying city popular with La Tech alumni is Atlanta, Ga., which offers a median salary of $58K. Other common destinations for La Tech grads include close-by Alexandria, La. and Houston, Texas.

Degree Major

Former Bulldogs who fare the best in terms of salary hold a Master of Science (MS) and earn a median salary of $89K per year. A B.A. in Bachelor of Arts (BA) is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of $54K.


Knowledge of Strategic Planning seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 173 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (approximately $180K). Nearly one in eight grads report using Microsoft Excel as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Experience with Data Analysis, Engineering Design, and Benefits & Compensation is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

A little less than half of the survey participants enjoy paid vacation and sick leave. Most grads take advantage of a 401(k) plan. Most former students receive health insurance, and more than half of respondents get dental coverage. Louisiana Tech University grads are also lucky enough to receive a casual working environment, life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
