ODU alumni can most commonly be found in the health care services industry, the financial services industry, and the consulting industry, though they are employed throughout a wide range of sectors. The most popular career sector among alumni is the health care industry. Those with an education from ODU earn an average of about $59K.

It's worth noting that female graduates earn a median salary of $51K whereas the men's median is $70K.

The ODU alumni who make the most are Operations Managers; they report a median pay of $78K. Information Technology Managers and Mechanical Engineers draw in a fair amount as well — approximately $74K and $69K, respectively. On the lower end, Staff Accountants report making around $44K.

Virginia Beach, Va. is a hub for ODU graduates — a large number call this city home. Washington, DC is another hot spot for ODU grads, where salaries rank at the top of the pay scale (compensation averages out to $78K). The city with the lowest median paycheck frequented by ODU alumni is Suffolk, Va., where earnings average about $40K. Close-by Norfolk, Va. and Chesapeake, Va. are also desirable cities among ODU alumni.

Degree Major

A Doctorate (PhD) leads to the highest pay for ODU grads (around $96K on average per year). A Bachelor of Science in Communication is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of $36K.

For former Monarchs, proficiency in SQL warrants a paycheck that is 50 percent more than other alumni salaries. ODU alumni are often well versed in Microsoft Office, with close to a tenth of grads ending up in jobs that require this skillset. Experience with Project Management, Microsoft Excel, and Engineering Design is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

Just two-fifths of alumni enjoy paid vacation and merely one in three grads get paid sick time. For this school, a strong majority of former students are the recipients of health benefits, and a strong majority of survey participants pick up dental plans, too. A fair number of grads set up a 401(k) to save for retirement. Other benefits awarded to Old Dominion University alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and a company-subsidized cell phone.

Related Schools
