A fuel truck driver is required to safely operate a tank wagon or tractor trailer with hazardous materials. At all times, these drivers must know and follow all required safety regulations, including in inclement weather. The ability to install chains on tires in ice, snow, mud, or rain is mandatory to manage driving in such weather. Fuel truck drivers must possess a working knowledge of different pump, hose, and wrench sizes and methods of operation, as filling and emptying are required on pickup and delivery. Overnight driving is not typically mandatory, but often shifts of 14 or more hours are expected (with at least 11 hours driving included).
