Job Description for Architectural Technologist

Architectural technologists do work related to the technical/functional aspects of building design. They must be familiar with the processes of conceptualization, design and implementation of buildings as well as the technology aspects of building design from an engineering and construction standpoint. Architectural technologists are tasked with analyzing the needs and unique facets of a building project and coming up with functional building designs in accordance with modern standards of practices of architecture, engineering and construction. Depending on the firm or the needs of specific projects, architectural technologists are often involved with the building process from the design phase through the completion of construction. Because of this, it is crucial that architectural technologists be familiar not only with modern technical architectural design and construction processes, but also project management, negotiations, acquisitions and legal issues related to building projects. As previously stated, architectural technologists are often involved in project management positions, working over a team of engineers, architects or construction/building professionals. The nature of their work means that architectural technologists may work in varied environments; some days in an office sketching building designs or meeting with clients, other days in the field at project locations contributing to or overseeing building projects as they are being constructed.
