Job Description for Automotive Service Technician

Automotive service technicians engage in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of malfunctioning automobiles. They replace defective parts, repair parts that may be broken, and adjust parts to ensure that vehicles are in proper working order. They are also responsible for filling out reports and paperwork associated with this work. They are usually expected to provide their own set of basic hand tools, and they must be proficient in the use of screwdrivers, socket wrenches, impact guns, and tools associated with changing tires and oil. Entry-level automotive service technicians are often required to clean and maintain the service area. Good verbal and written communication skills may be required, as in some businesses the automotive service technician will be required to interact with customers.
