Job Description for Bicycle Mechanic

Bicycle mechanics conduct repairs on bicycles for customers. These mechanics generally must have prior experience in repairing bikes, and they should have the ability to repair a wide variety of bike brands; this includes being knowledgeable in lacing, truing, and dishing of bike wheels. No certifications are required for this position, though many employers require or prefer a high school diploma or equivalent. As this job often involves working directly with clients, prior customer service experience is often highly preferred. On a typical day, bicycle mechanics work with heavy and light bicycles, and they are standing, squatting, and moving to repair bikes for the majority of the day These mechanics should also be able to lift bikes weighing up to 50 pounds. Bicycle mechanics are also expected to be able to expertly work with large and small tools and bike parts.
