Job Description for Landscape Foreman
A landscape foreman is the person charged with directing the actions of a landscaping crew. While this role is generally considered managerial, most landscape foremen are expected to be involved in the actual landscaping duties. However, some companies are large enough that their work volume demands more of an oversight role (versus manual labor).Read More...
Landscape foremen may have a travel requirement, although some employers (such as hotels and golf courses) may not. If travel is involved, companies often require their landscape foremen to not only hold a valid driver’s license, but also a chauffer’s license or higher endorsements on their license, so that they can drive vans from site to site as needed.
Landscape foremen can oversee maintenance of an existing site or the implementation of new projects. While there is a great deal of crossover between the two types of duties, there are also important distinctions. For example, both types of foreman are responsible for supervising the work crews that lay sod, put plants in the ground, and trim bushes from time to time. The major difference is in the site work. If a landscape foreman is responsible for the layout of a completely new plot of ground (say, a hotel construction site) there will be more individuals to manage.
Leadership abilities are a must for a landscape foreman. A college degree is rarely requested for this position, although previous experience leading teams usually is. Another possible qualification requirement is experience working with designers, landscape architects, and related professionals. (Copyright 2019 PayScale.com)
