A sales director’s primary responsibility is the development of a sales plan that is scalable and transferrable to meet the needs of regional and local sales teams. As this is considered a senior management position, a national sales director holds considerable responsibility over a wide range of duties. A director works with sales representatives and account managers to provide oversight and coaching on all sales functions and to identify opportunities to improve sales and gross margins. The national sales director also partners with the marketing department to ensure effective marketing strategies, support product launches, and help with other key developments along the life cycle of a product.
