Job Description for Night Auditor

Night auditors work at the front desk of hotels during the night (or third) shift, so they usually work between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Night auditors generally balance accounting books, complete and transmit daily management accounting reports and supporting documents, and transmit and settle credit card batches. While it is common for night auditors to handle account matters for the hotel, it is not uncommon for them to also handle functions of the front desk staff. They can be found acting as a guest service representative doing room reservations, stocking linens and supplies, delivering notices to guests, answering phone calls, and providing guests with towels, blankets, pillows and other items as needed.

Q: What is it like working as a Night Auditor?

Night Auditor in Canmore:
Pros: No managers breathing over my shoulder, no other employees or colleagues to get in my way. I like being alone and it's cool that I'm able to do that and get paid. Nightimes are much more quiet than during the day, there are less guests around, sometimes you will go your entire shift without seeing a single person, so you have a little bit more freedom. It's a relaxed environment. The work is pretty simple. I also get paid more than a regular front desk agent, but do about 4 hours of work total each shift. The rest of it is killing time and trying to do extra things around the office. I get discounts at other hotels in our company, which is great because I love to travel. I am rewarded for extra effort, and I like all of my colleagues.
Cons: You become a ghost and your colleagues often forget about you. The other thing is sleep, which isn't hard to do during the day but it makes it hard to have a social life or take opportunities to travel.
