Apart from helping with the launch of a company, business development consultants often take part in the daily operations of their clients, often for a specific, contracted amount of time. In these situations, business development consultants help create marketing, brand development, and public relation plans, as well as strategies for budgeting, cost analysis, and customer development; they may either work directly with customers to build relationships or in developing plans for the business to follow. Business development consultants often work in a variety of locations, including their own office, in an office of the business for which they are consulting, and off-site locations dealing directly with potential customers and suppliers.
Most business development consultants have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field. They must also have specific, in-depth knowledge of the industry or industries in which they are providing consultancy services.
