Job Description for Sales Assistant

A sales assistant usually works in a retail store. The merchandise sold can vary greatly, from clothing to automotive parts to electronics. A sales assistant will greet customers when they first enter the store, so it is important to have a friendly demeanor. The sales assistant should ask the customer questions, in order to determine what their needs are. However, the sales assistant should be able to read the customer. For instance, if the customer seems uncomfortable, the customer should be left alone to browse. If the customer seems eager to purchase, the sales assistant should continue to make recommendations. It is important to have strong knowledge about what the company offers, in order to be able to offer the best item to suit the customer’s needs.
