Mission is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 80,452 in 2012. Mission is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas. Mission is located at 26°12′41″N 98°19′17″W (26.211402, -98.321277). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.1 square miles (62 km2), of which, 24.1 square miles (62 km2) of it is land and 0.04% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 45,408 people, 13,766 households, and 11,384 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,881.9 people per square mile (726.6/km²).
