Assistant athletic directors serve as a primary contact for other athletic facilities, and any important phone calls with sensitive materials should be discussed directly with the athletic director. Attending and serving as a game day administrator is common in this position, and depending on boundaries set by the director, the assistant may hire, train, and supervise employees and collaborate with different sectors within the company. If athletes have any issues or questions, the assistant may answer them or seek the help of the director.
A college degree in an administrative field may be required for this position, and some employers require an associate's degree while others may require a master's. Strong interpersonal skills are important, as assistant athletic directors are in constant contact with other employees, coaches, and athletes.
