"Position Yourself For Growth And Opportunities."
Director of Operations:
Research employment opportunities in a privately owned company. Investigate company succession plans to see growth opportunities/expansion plan, profit sharing or company share options. Request clear and defined list of responsibilities, the role "Director of Operations" can become a melting pot of responsibilities. This melting pot can and most likely will result in your position expanding without a title change. I.E. Director of Marketing, Merchandising, Store Design / Construction, Budget Management, HR Management, Inventory Management, Recruitment Specialist, Training and Development. Negotiate; training time and allowance, review of responsibilities every 24 months with compensation/benefit and vacation review to be negotiated at this time.

"Problems good ... Simple bad :)"
Director of Operations:
Pros: Constant new problems need solving. Very rarely do I get trapped in doing the same thing every day, but that also means all of those different things tend to become a responsibility for maintenance of any projects or programs that are put in place.
Cons: The mundane. If anyone else can solve the problem with a little effort I would prefer to avoid the situation, but in a management role at a small company there are a wide array of small simple problems that will not get solved if you don't bite the bullet and solve them.
