Job Description for General Manager, Farm

A farm general manager, often referred to as an agricultural manager, is the person responsible for overseeing the development of crops, animals, and various items within a farm that are sold to businesses or consumers. A farm general manager typically works outside within the elements, although some may simply oversee the farm’s operations from indoors. The farm manager will typically work extended, often long hours, and this is a “more than full-time” position. Dependent on the farm, formal education is typically not required, as most owners do value real-life, hands-on experience over formal training. However, educational courses sometimes recommended for a farm general manager include farm management, agricultural economics, dairy sciences, and crop management. There are also several government-sponsored programs for farm managers to partake in.
