Job Description for Head Teller
Head teller directly serve customers at the counter at banks, while also performing a variety of other duties. Head tellers daily responsibilities include training new hires, managing workflow of subordinates, monitoring cash levels, creating daily reports, organizing incoming and outgoing cash shipments, filling and balancing onsite ATMs, performing teller audits, and handling customer needs. Additional head teller duties may include monitoring the vault, handling the drive-up window, assisting with safe deposit boxes, accounting for the night depository, operating a coin counting machine, and encoding checks. When interacting with customers, head tellers are responsible for explaining the various available banking products, such as checking, savings, certificate of deposits, money market accounts, types of lending products, and, if necessary, referrals to an appropriate departments. Routine customer-oriented tasks include opening and closing accounts, making deposits, cashing checks, providing account information, issuing traveler's checks, drafting cashier checks, performing wire transfers, and accepting payments.
Strict state and federal security regulations require head tellers to report directly to the bank manager. Most head tellers work regular business hours in a bank, but they may stay later or work on weekends to fulfill the demands of the position.
