Pharmacy operations managers are responsible for day-to-day operations of their employer’s pharmacy department. They oversee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other staff. They must conduct staff performance evaluations in a timely manner. They lead staff meetings. They are involved in other administrative tasks, such as budgeting and keeping track of expenses at their facility. They must comply with national standards, as well as state and federal laws. They must also adhere to their employer’s procedures, policies, and guidelines. They must have excellent oral and written communication skills. They must have superior leadership and interpersonal skills. They must be familiar with retail pharmacy and pharmacy benefit management (PBM). Many employers require that candidates have a doctor of pharmacy degree from an accredited college or university. They are required to possess a license from the state board. Previous management experience is often desirable.
