Retail supervisors develop plans for their teams and make sure those plans are executed. They must conduct meetings for their team to understand how the plan will work and why it is so important. Retail supervisors also must be able to provide their team with constructive criticism and be able to help them develop by teaching different skills. It is important that these supervisors lead by example and can answer phones, sell merchandise, cashier, and merchandise freight. It is also important they understand concepts and procedures related to inventory.

Retail supervisors must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. They are required to multitask, while also keeping the customer happy and satisfied. It is important that retail supervisors have excellent customer service and communications skills. They also need leadership skills to effectively oversee their team. These supervisors may work a variety of hours that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Retail supervisors may also be required to work long hours and may need to travel to different stores within the company for meetings and conferences.
