Job Description for Sales Analyst

The sales analyst is tasked with a variety of efforts relating to increasing overall sales. This primarily involves analyzing past sales data and market trends, and then using those analyses to produce sales forecasts and strategies. They also examines a company's production, distribution, and marketing systems to address possible shortcomings. The sales analyst may coordinate with marketing teams to create promotional activities and suggest other methods to boost sales. The sales analyst must communicate with vendors and outside clients to coordinate new marketing efforts.

A sales analyst must be able to pay close attention to detail and possess the analytical skills to detect patterns and trends, as well as a working knowledge of the company's processes. The sales analyst must also possess strong communications skills, to effectively work with management and staff on sales strategies. Creative thinking and initiative are necessary for the sales analyst to invent new sales methods and improve upon existing methods.

Prospective applicants for a sales analyst position ideally possess a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on finance, accounting, or management, if the analyst is to direct a team.
