Job Description for Sales Consultant, Retail

The retail sales consultant is responsible for ensuring customers have an optimal experience as they select products and services. They ensure that the sales areas are clean and organized in accordance to store policy, and they need to follow store display and plan-o-gram instructions to ensure product is displayed correctly. Other responsibilities include keeping current on the features and benefits of products for sale, as well as educating other sales consultants as needed. The sales consultant is expected to handle and lift products; the ability to lift over 50 pounds and bend and reach to access inventory is required.

Retail sales consultants typically work a variety of schedules, with weekend and evening availability required. They must be comfortable working with a wide variety of team members including customers, other sales consultants, and managers. They need to respond to customers’ needs in a timely fashion and collaborate with other sales consultants when necessary. Retail sales consultants also work with sales managers to set personal sales goals and independently work to achieve daily sales goals. A uniform and/or name tag is required at all times when on sales floor.

A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required for this position, with some college desired. Prior experience in sales or customer service in positions that required a high level of customer service is preferable. Good customer services skills, phone skills, and interpersonal skills are required for retail sales consultants.
