They generally oversee other software developers to reach all company goals. They define road maps that establish schedules for development, and implement features required by the organization. Senior software product managers must create effective strategies for decreasing the use of company resources and strive to reduce the time they need to revise code and ship a program that is bug-free. Senior software product managers also organize phase reviews and product planning tasks. They are in charge of training responsibilities in the use of software programs, as well as working with marketing professionals to create a successful product launch. One of their main tools include a personal computer for testing the software products, in addition to a programming environment with debugging tools and programming applications. Senior software product managers generally report to the software development leader in their department.
A bachelor's degree in software programming, computer science, or a related field is needed in this position. In addition, managerial experience may be preferred. They must have strong leadership abilities that can help motivate their team to find innovative solutions to technical problems.
