Wellness/fitness center program directors supervise programs to ensure that they are administered in a safe manner and in accordance with the facility's policies. They often interact directly with clients, so strong customer service skills are important in this position, and they must design schedules that are attractive and beneficial to customers’ needs. Surveys may be administered to determine customers' satisfaction with the programs offered, and it's important to stay ahead of new trends in order to implement new and popular methods of fitness. These directors may also have hiring and human resources duties, such as administering payroll and providing employee evaluations. It may also be necessary to track and maintain various certifications required of trainers and teachers to teach classes.
Marketing skills are important in this position, as the director is often tasked with increasing clientele and class interest. Concise and well-organized records should be kept, as well, so computer skills are also important.
