What is it like working as a Legal Assistant?
Legal Assistant in Winnipeg:
"Not Worth It."
Pros: I enjoy most of the work. After 28 years in the Canadian Forces it is quite different from what I am used to and, for the most part, fairly interesting.
Cons: I have never worked so hard for so little in my entire life. We are expected to work overtime without being compensated and we are not given credit for the hard work that is done. The pay is minuscule compared to what is expected and the general work atmosphere is almost oppressive.
Legal Assistant in Brampton:
"Office Conditions, Reception, Real Estate Closing"
Pros: The opportunity to learn about real estate closing. Handling different situations and people.
Cons: Stress level, pressure, bad temperament of clients.
Legal Assistant in Hamilton:
Pros: The lawyer I work for is very nice and helps with anything you need help with. He always pays for any over time hours you would like to work.
Cons: It's stressful sometimes as in Real Estate Law there are deadlines for purchase/sale transactions and also lawyers need their work done a.s.a.p.
Legal Assistant in Calgary:
Pros: Constantly learning new things, there are people around willing and able to help, steady pay cheque, new tasks on a day to day basis.
Cons: The hours are inconsistent, expected to clear dishes off my bosses desk, she takes her other frustrations out on me.
