Job Description for Life Coach

Working one-on-one with everyday people, whether it be in the office, over the phone, via the Internet, or even in one's own home, is something an aspiring life coach can expect to experience daily. Life coaches are responsible for helping others set realistic goals in areas such as employment, careers, family, love, health, and general self-development.
Life coaches assist clients in meeting these goals by overcoming obstacles and learning to take control of their lives. In doing so, a life coach must be prepared to express complete understanding and have the utmost patience toward his or her clients.
It not required to have any particular education to become a life coach. Generally, however, employers look for applicants who have trained under a life coach mentor, have a significant number of hours or amount of experience coaching clients, and/or have a certificate in the field obtained through educational courses. Certification can be earned via a graduate-level program or through private institutions that focus directly on life coaching.
While having compassion and possessing the desire to help others are the main skills that will be needed to succeed in this field, it is also important that a life coach understand the body as a whole and how the physical self relates to the emotional self. Knowledge of stress reduction techniques is also very helpful in this type of field, as the people a life coach will be working with may have setbacks that they are unable to handle.
