Job Description for Manager Trainee

A manager trainee is an associate who is working toward becoming a manager. The trainee will learn how to ensure a positive customer service experience through the analysis and improvement of company processes and points of contact, and the trainee will use that information to begin taking on managerial duties. The future manager will learn, develop, maintain, and improve upon the supervisory and administrative skills necessary to manage a store, and will meet or exceed individual sales and customer service goals set by the company and managers. The manager trainee will set an example of company standards and policies in all interactions with managers, supervisors, other coworkers, and customers. Within a few months of demonstrated success, a manager trainee can expect to become a full manager, though one might be expected to relocate to fill a vacancy within the company. Some companies may require a college education to be a manager trainee, and an applicant for this job should have at least a high school diploma or GED as well as some experience working in a customer service environment. A manager trainee should have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, and should be okay with enforcing company policy even if it means being the "bad guy" sometimes. A successful worker in the position will be able to adapt to a changing schedule as necessary to fill staffing needs, and should be able to work well with others and encourage the rest of the staff to meet with sales goals and provide the best customer service experience possible.
