Job Description for Spa Therapist

A spa therapist is another term for a massage therapist. Their basic responsibilities include giving professional massages to clients and possibly managing the front desk. Since massage therapists spend a lot of time with clients, excellent customer service skills are a must. A spa therapist should be professional, courteous, and attentive to each customer's personal needs at all times.
Generally, working as a spa therapist requires a educational minimum of holding a massage therapy license. Further qualifications may be strongly preferred, including certifications in deep tissue, hot stone, or prenatal massage. Spa therapists need to be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds. They must be able to provide professional massages that can last anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours depending on the type of service offered. Some spas may even want the spa therapist to spend time promoting their products to clients.
Typically, a massage therapist is expected to know many forms of massage as well as a variety of body treatments. Spa therapists may work with other masseuses and they generally report to a spa manager. Work hours are generally within the hours of early morning until early evening as spas are not normally open late or overnight.
