The construction project assistant develops schedules for particular projects being performed by their company. This person does not work on the labor end of construction, but is one of the planners of the project. The construction project assistant communicates with clients regularly, responding to inquiries and answering questions. Additionally, the assistant manages documents such as subcontractor requisitions, vendor invoices, and project activities. Much of the assistant's work is performed inside an office, but occasionally this worker meets with clients outside of their office. Sometimes, the construction project assistant travels to the construction work site to check on the progress of projects, since reporting and presenting progress reports is also his or her duty.
Generally, no formal education is required for this position, although the construction project assistant must have several years of experience in construction business and with management experience. This person also needs to be able to manage a team, interacting regularly with construction workers and reporting to the owner of the construction company or other supervisor. Additionally, the assistant should have advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software and other relevant computer programs. They should also have outstanding general management skills to help maintain the project schedule, budget, and quality of the project.
