With close to one-half of Engineering Instructors in the United States reporting more than 10 years of experience in the field, this area is heavily weighted toward experienced professionals. Pay ranges from $40K to $103K per year and averages out to $60K annually. Job satisfaction is high and work is enjoyable for most Engineering Instructors. Job Description for Instructor, Engineering

An engineering instructor works in a post secondary institution, instructing students in the principles of engineering. An engineering instructor is responsible for planning courses in engineering, including deciding course content, choosing materials, preparing and delivering lectures, giving assignments, and preparing tests and evaluations. Students are evaluated by the engineering instructor. Engineering instructors must also track attendance, participation, and grades of their students. Office hours may be required for engineering instructors. During office hours, engineering instructors will meet with students one on one to provide further insight on course content or to discuss student progress, evaluations, and grades. Engineering instructors may be expected to conduct academic research in their chosen field.

  • Prepare classroom presentations and hand-outs.
  • Schedule and maintain weekly office hours per college policy for the educational development and advising of students.
