Logistics planning managers are in charge of effectively planning and managing all logistics activities for their company. They are responsible for developing, documenting, and improving logistics initiatives, as well as managing a group of logistics planning professionals to reach all company goals in a timely manner. They work with other managers to discuss important logistics planning ideas and ensure all processes are effective and efficient. Logistics planning managers must be able to effectively prioritize projects and deliver planning strategies under strict deadlines. Their main duties also include analyzing and recommending new logistics-related strategies, as well as working to eliminate the root causes of recurring issues that raise costs or reduce services for their organization and customers. They also manage relationships and negotiate rates with vendors and external partners. Logistics planning managers also develop and evaluate standard operating procedures, rules, and processes to enhance communication, transfer information, and produce results.
A bachelor's degree and related experience are generally required for this position. In addition, previous experience in a managerial capacity may be preferred, and industry and leadership certifications may be beneficial. Logistics planning managers must be organized individuals that pay close attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
