Market research associates are in charge of information-gathering tasks and research responsibilities for their organization. They collect information using different technology and methods; one of their main duties includes conducting informational surveys online and in-person to gather needed data related to products, services, and other facts of the organization. They may also assist in conducting focus groups and in other methods of consumer research. In addition, associates handle physical and digital files to be analyzed once research has been completed; excellent organizational skills are needed for this position.
These associates work in a team setting with other associates to reach all company objectives. They must possess strong interpersonal skills with their team and other individuals, such as survey respondents and focus group subjects. Market research associates identify opportunities for increased sales and consumer visibility, as well as measure effectiveness of different business areas and identify possible changes based on their observations. Among other responsibilities are performing data entry, responding promptly to email correspondence with internal and external entities, and completing cold calling duties as needed. Generally, market research associates report their progress to the market research manager or supervisor in their department.
A bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field is necessary for this position. Previous experience in a research capacity and industry certifications may be preferred. Market research associates should have strong organizational skills and be able to multitask in what is generally a fast-paced environment.
