Job Description for Painting, Coating, or Decorating Worker

A painting, coating or decorating worker executes the paint and design work conceived by architects, decorators and designers. This work is typically part of original residential or commercial construction, but these workers are also used as part of remodeling and renovation projects. They perform interior and exterior painting, install wallpaper, and apply stains and protective coating to wooden floors, door and other surfaces. Often, painting, coating or decorating workers are brought in relatively late to construction projects, as airborne debris such as sawdust can negatively impact paints, stains and coatings. In most situations, a designer and foreman have chosen all paint and other materials to be used, and the worker executes designated tasks. In some situations, the construction or painting foreman may need to be advised of challenges such as surface anomalies or atmospheric conditions affecting the application of paint and other decorative effects.
