These pharmacists generally oversee medication requests to ensure accuracy while assisting patients and families with support and knowledge about medications recommended by their physicians. They must be proficient with Office applications, including word processors, spreadsheet software, and other research tools to facilitate their tasks, and they often have administrative duties such as filling out medication orders and completing safety protocol paperwork and government forms. They are also responsible for completing detailed reports based on their findings and presenting conclusions to the research supervisor in their department, as well as controlling the distribution of medication once research has been completed.
Research pharmacists must always follow strict safety and privacy regulations to prevent any incidents, and strong customer service skills are important to provide excellent experiences for clients and vendors. They may either work together with other researchers and pharmacists to share information and reach objectives, or independently with minimal supervision.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is generally required for this position, and prior work experience in a research or pharmacy capacity is highly beneficial. Industry certifications are also helpful.
