Search engine marketing (SEM) account managers generally hold a role within an advertising company that is responsible for oversight and direct management of search engine marketing and other online advertising. A person in this position must be very familiar with the Internet, have an understanding of online advertising, and have strong customer service skills. These professionals generally work in an office setting, performing tasks such as managing active portfolios and online advertising campaigns to strategically improve clients' organic rankings, traffic, and results. An SEM account manager works with other employees and clients to resolve any client concerns and to analyze, summarize, and present analytical reports. Requirements for this position vary and may include experience directly managing search engine optimization campaigns and/or a bachelor's degree. In most cases, a general understanding of web hosting and Google Analytics is a requirement as well. SEM account managers generally work full time during regular business hours, although overtime may be required for certain projects and deadlines. This position generally has minimal physical requirements beyond long periods of working at a computer.
