They supervise different processes for remediation and quality assurance of water, air, and soil. They utilize a personal computer as one of their main tools to conduct research, based on regional environmental data. Waste management engineers are organized and pay close attention to detail to find alternatives for waste processing. In addition, they use their strong communication skills to interact with other specialists and engineers to find ways to maximize equipment output. Waste management engineers are in charge of implementing sewer and water treatment, in addition to performing recycling when possible. These engineers work in a fast-paced environment, designing plans to control environmental hazards. They use specialized technology to reduce contamination.
A bachelor's degree in waste management engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field is required for this position. Industry certifications are a plus.
