Graduates of SMC head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; IT consulting, the construction industry, and public K-12 education are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The banking industry is the sector most highly represented among alumni. Those with an education from SMC earn an average of $71K.


After graduation, disparities in salary rise to the surface — males tend to earn $83K per year compared to females' $68K.


Former SMC students with an interest in making money consider becoming VPs of Finance and Chief Financial Officers, the highest-paying gig (earnings amount to about $245K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Business Operations Managers (around $107K) and Account Executives (approximately $97K). Collecting the smallest paychecks are Financial Analysts — they bring in $62K.


Those with a degree from SMC often relocate to San Francisco after college. San Jose is another hot spot for SMC grads, where salaries rank at the top of the pay scale (compensation averages out to about $111K). SMC alumni in Sacramento can often be found sliding in at the lower end of the pay scale, where median paychecks are the smallest at approximately $61K. Other popular cities for SMC alumni include nearby San Ramon and Oakland.

Degree Major

Former Gaels who fare the best in terms of salary hold an Executive Masters of Business Administration (Exec MBA), Business Management and earn $134K per year. A Bachelor of Science in Biology offers the lowest annual financial reward ($51K).


SMC grads are usually competent in Project Management, and about a fifth of alumni continue practicing this skill in their career. Knowledge of Operations Management seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 30 percent more than their former classmates' salaries ($93K). Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Financial Analysis is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only about half of the alumni enjoy paid vacation and one in three grads receive sick leave. For this school, the greater part of grads are the recipients of health benefits, and a fair portion of graduates pick up dental plans, too. A strong majority of survey participants participate in a 401(k) program.
