The software development industry, the education industry, and the retail industry are just a few of the areas in which SF State grads find work. The most highly represented industry among alumni is the financial services industry. Starting salaries of $60K are common among SF State grads.


Among SF State graduates, the biggest earners are Human Resources Directors, who haul in $122K on average. Next on the list are Accounting Managers and Human Resources Managers, bringing in approximately $83K and around $73K, respectively. Collecting the smallest paychecks are Office Managers — they bring in $51K.


Graduates of SF State take pride in the city of San Francisco, and more than two-fifths of grads wind up living and working here after graduation. With a median salary of about $74K, San Jose represents the highest-paid city popular among SF State grads. On the other hand, SF State alumni who end up in Los Angeles receive the lowest median salaries of $56K. Other cities of interest among SF State alumni include nearby Oakland and New York.


Typical salaries reach $110K at Cisco Systems Inc, where former SF State students can easily make the most money. Low on the list of moneymaking companies (typical salaries reach $49K), San Francisco State University (SFSU) remains to be a popular spot for students after school.

Degree Major

Former Gators who fare the best in terms of salary hold a B.A. in International Relations and earn approximately $100K per year. Graduates holding a B.A. in Fine Arts fare the worst in terms of compensation with yearly salaries of around $40K.


Around an eighth of grads report using Microsoft Excel as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Knowledge of Project Management seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 22 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (about $73K). Competency in Microsoft Office, Project Management, and Customer Service also warrants excellent retribution.

Benefits and Perks

Only two-fifths of alumni for this school enjoy paid vacation days and about one in three grads get paid sick time. The greater part of former students enjoy benefits like health insurance, while most respondents receive dental plans, too. A strong majority of grads report contributing to a 401(k). San Francisco State University alumni are also on the receiving end of a casual working environment, life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, and flexible hours.
