The financial services industry registers as the most common industry among alumni. SF State graduates see an average starting salary of about $60K.

Jobs

Former SF State students with an interest in making money consider becoming Human Resources Directors, the highest-paying gig (average earnings amount to $118K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Human Resources Managers ($84K) and Software Engineers ($80K). Administrative Assistants face rather mediocre compensation — average salaries are actually the lowest at $37K.

Locations

San Francisco is a popular place for SF State students to settle after graduation, and just over two-fifths of grads find steadfast employment in the city. Pleasanton, Calif. is another hot spot for SF State grads, where salaries rank at the top of the pay scale (compensation averages out to approximately $101K). On the other hand, SF State alumni who end up in Los Angeles, Calif. receive the lowest median salary of around $56K. Nearby Oakland, Calif. is also a top pick for SF State grads, as is San Jose, Calif.

Degree Major

With a median annual earnings of $104K per year, former Gators who have a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Business & Marketing are the best paid among the alumni population. Graduates holding a B.A. in Fine Arts fare the worst in terms of compensation with an average yearly salary of $40K.

Skills

Knowledge of Project Management seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 20 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (around $72K). Around one in seven SF State grads wind up using Microsoft Excel at their job, which is one of the most common skills among alumni. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Project Management, and Customer Service command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only about two-fifths of alumni enjoy paid vacation and one-third of alumni receive sick leave. Most alums participate in a 401(k) retirement savings plan. Health benefits extend to a large number of graduates, and a fair number of former students also receive dental coverage. San Francisco State University grads are also lucky enough to receive a casual working environment, life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, and flexible hours.
