The junior manager's first responsibility is to the existing accounts assigned to him or her. The junior manager will typically ensure that these accounts are able to place orders as necessary. He or she will also communicate new products or services that may be of interest to the accounts. The junior account manager also will be expected to be in communication with his or her assigned accounts to notify them of any difficulties in shipping, procurement, or other complications. A great portion of this job requires excellent interpersonal skills on behalf of the junior account manager.
A senior sales manager may also require junior account managers to add business clients to the company's portfolio. While this may involve cold-calling, many junior account managers choose to network in a more face-to-face manner at trade shows, company sponsored meet-and-greets, and the like. As with working with existing accounts, interpersonal communication skills and a strong personality are keys to success here.
The formal education requirements to be a junior account manager are not necessarily steep. While many companies may prefer individuals with university degrees in business disciplines, other employers will value practical experience in one-on-one sales just as much. A junior account manager typically works regular office hours during the business week in an office environment. (Copyright 2019 PayScale.com)
