Telesales team managers are responsible for supervising and overseeing the work of a team engaged in conducting telemarketing sales calls by phone. These managers ensure that their teams spend their time making calls at all times, as most telesales philosophies assert that the sheer number of calls made is one of the essential means by which sales targets are reached. These managers help track sales figures and ensure that all sales are entered into the system and credit card figures are properly batched at the end of each shift. Telesales team managers must be good trainers. Most sales departments not only operate calling software and data input software to handle sales calls, but also work consistently from scripts, and these managers typically teach these skills to new employees and assign them to observe other employees in practical training for periods of time, as well. They must also keep their staff focused, typically by providing them with calls-per-hour quotas and targets to reach; they often provide feedback to each member of the team regarding their individual performances.
Because telesales also relies on accurate data entry of customer names and payment media, those in this position may review sales made throughout the shift to ensure this accuracy and that any credit card information has been securely entered, authorized, and collected in a batch report. Finally, telesales team managers must always keep their teams motivated, both in pre-shift meetings and one-on-one review sessions.
For this position, practical experience is often held in equal regard to education. Most employees prefer applicants who demonstrate outstanding competency in telemarketing and telesales and an aptitude for leading by example and motivating others.
