Job Description for Floor Supervisor
Floor supervisors work in a variety of industries. Their main task is to supervise the work of other, lower-level employees. The word "floor" can be taken literally in the sense the supervisor is watching the floor where the employees are working; however, they may be responsible for a more general sales space. The floor supervisor answers employee questions, make sure everyone is doing their job correctly, ensures safety standards are being followed, and might even be responsible for organizing and maintaining the company's inventory. A floor supervisor is also responsible for turning on and off any equipment that employees use during work.Read More...
Typically, there is a floor supervisor for each shift in which employees work, and floor supervisors tend to work the same hours as their employees, as it is their job to supervise them. However, they might stay after employees to document what happened during the shift. A floor manager may have an office in which he or she manages inventory, prepares employee schedules and performance reviews, and interviews and hires new employees. But, most often, the supervisor is found on the floor supervising employees.
Educational requirements for floor supervisors vary by industry. Some companies prefer to hire individuals with a postsecondary degree, but a degree is generally not required. Previous experience in their field is needed, and experience in a supervisory role may be required or preferred. Often, a floor supervisor who shows excellent managerial skills can move up to a higher position in management. (Copyright 2019 PayScale.com)
